Covington Creek Nursery is excited to be offering a diverse selection of classes to our customers. Registration can take place by calling 253-887-8838. Please register in advance as far as possible to allow for planning of the class. In order to offer these classes and to expand on our offerings we must have a minimum of (10) registrations. Minimal fees are charged for our classes and are due upon registration. If you have any suggestions for classes you would like to see offered, please let us know. We appreciate and value our customers' input!

 

  • Bareroot Tree & Shrub Planting- Saturday, Feb 19th at 10:00am. Discover the benefits and how-to's of bareroot planting. Taught by Debbie Kadlec, Covington Creek Nursery Staff Garden Consultant, Fee $10.00
  • Hellebores & Other Winter Interest Plants- Saturday, Feb 19th at 1:00pm. Learn what to plant in your garden for 'Year Round Interest' and winter blossoms, color and texture. Taught by Debbie Kadlec, Covington Creek Nursery Staff Garden Consultant, Fee $10.00
  • Pruning Basics- Saturday, March 5th at 10:00AM. This class will cover the basics of late-winter/early-spring pruning. Timing is great for getting your garden ready for the season. Taught by Debbie Kadlec, Covington Creek Nursery Staff Garden Consultant, Fee $10.00
  • Spring Garden Cleanup- Saturday, March 5th at 1:00PM. Learn how tidying your garden- including weed removal, fertiziliation, mulching- can reduce on-going maintenance and increase enjoyment of your garden throughout the year. Taught by Debbie Kadlec, Covington Creek Nursery Staff Garden Consultant, Fee $10.00 (We also offer Spring and Fall Cleanup from Anthem Landscape & Construction Division 206-388-9397).
  • Composting Basics- Saturday, March 19th at 1:00PM. Creating a compost pile is one way we can mimic nature's process of recycling organic material such as garden debris. In as little as three weeks, your compost pile will begin to transform itself into a nutrient-rich soil amendment which can be added to your grounds and planters. Taught by Debbie Kadlec, Covington Creek Nursery Staff Garden Consultant, Fee $10.00
  • Lawn 101- Saturday, March 26th from 10:00-11:30AM. Want that gorgeous lawn you can brag about? This is the class for you. Hey ladies, sign your husband up for this class. Christina Salwitz, The Personal Garden Coach, will help you make that happen! Fee $10.00
  • Moss Basket- Sunday, April 3rd at 1:00PM. Create your very own hanging moss basket to enjoy while sitting on your deck. Make the mess here and we'll provide all supplies and materials. Covington Creek Nursery Grower, Peggy Roberts will teach this class. Fee $50.00.
  • New Home, New Yard, Now What?- April 9th at 10:00AM. Overwhelmed? Wondering where to start looking for fun ideas? Christina Salwitz, The Personal Garden Coach, will walk you through a step-by-step approach towards evaluating your garden and get you started in this fun, new adventure! Fee $10.00.
  • Spring/Summer Vegetable Gardening- Saturday, April 9th at 1:00PM. Basics of preparing your garden space and planting cool and warm weather vegetables using seeds, starts and sets. Taught by Debbie Kadlec, Covington Creek Nursery Staff Garden Consultant, Fee $10.00
  • Create a Beautiful Hanging Basket- Tuesday, April 12th at 6:00PM. Ladies Night Out- Bring your own old hanging basket or purchase one from us and we will provide plants and supplies at 15% off for anything you select for your container. Taught by Covington Creek Nursery Staff Member, Suzanne Egeland.
  • ***Easter Egg Hunt- Saturday April 23rd at 11:00AM. Bring your kids for an Easter Egg Hunt through the Nursery. Ages 2-12. Wear a self-decorated Easter Bonnet. Owners of winning bonnets will receive a gift certificate. One Adult and one Child will Win! FREE
  • Do It Yourself Design Workshop- Saturday, April 30th at 10:00AM. Join Nancy Claire Guth, with Artistic Garden Concepts. Bring a photo and approximate dimensions, and you will walk away with a design for a small area. This will be a popular class, with limited size so be sure and sign up early. Fee $35.00.
  • ***Mother's Day Plant Labels- Saturday, April 30th at 1:00PM. Make wooden spoon plant markers for mom to put in the garden. What a great Mother's Day Gift! Taught by Debbie Kadlec, Covington Creek Nursery Staff Garden Consultant, Fee $10.00
  • General Pruning and Deadheading- Saturday, May 14th at 1:00PM. Join us to learn the basics of pruning and deadheading your garden plants. Taught by Debbie Kadlec, Covington Creek Nursery Staff Garden Consultant, Fee $10.00
  • Container Gardening- Saturday, May 21st at 1:00PM. Plant a new container for the season or redo that old one. Bring your own container and we will provide any plants or supplies you need at 15% off for anything you purchase for your container. Taught by Debbie Kadlec, Covington Creek Nursery Staff Garden Consultant.
  • ***Good Bugs & other Garden Critters- Saturday, May 28th at 1:00PM. Not all bugs are bad. There are many bugs that help our garden grow and thrive. Dress for gettin' messy. We will provide magnifying glasses and lots of bugs! Taught by Debbie Kadlec, Covington Creek Nursery Staff Garden Consultant. FREE
  • Ground Covers in the Garden- Saturday, June 4th at 10:00AM. How to use groundcover in the garden, what are "stepables," how can ground covers control weeds, can we substitute ground covers for lawn? Attend this class and learn how to enjoy these wonderful plants in your garden. Taught by Debbie Kadlec, Covington Creek Nursery Staff Garden Consultant, Fee $10.00
  • Vertical Gardening- Saturday, June 4th at 1:00PM. Increase your growing options with the addition of self-watering wall planters. We'll provide the materials- get ready to explore a new approach to an ancient concept. Taught by Debbie Kadlec, Covington Creek Nursery Staff Garden Consultant, Fee $50.00
  • Stunning Plant Combinations- Saturday, June 11th at 1:00PM. Create interesting color and textural pairings by utilizing foliage. What does it mean when you call clematis a companion plant and how do I integrate these concepts into my garden? Taught by Debbie Kadlec, Covington Creek Nursery Staff Garden Consultant, Fee $10.00
  • Gardening with Containers- Saturday, June 18th at 1:00PM. How to garden small spaces using containers and implementing containers as art in the garden. Taught by Debbie Kadlec, Covington Creek Nursery Staff Garden Consultant, Fee $10.00
  • ***4th Annual Garden Tour- Saturday, June 25th, 10:00AM to 4:00PM. Garden tour sponsored by Cedar Creek Covenant Church and Covington Creek Nursery, benefiting the Maple Valley Food Bank. Will include 8-10 gardens of different varieties and themes. More information to follow. Fee $10.00
  • Hydrangeas- Saturday, July 9th at 1:00PM. Care, maintenance and pruning of these old-fashioned flowers in your shade garden. Learn about varieties that perform well in the sun. Join us for this informative class. Taught by Cindy Thirkield, Owner of Covington Creek Nursery. Fee $10.00.
  • Right Plant, Right Place- Saturday, July 16th at 1:00PM. Looking for low maintenance? Then this class can help you. Gardening success is dependent on understanding the concept of selecting the right plant for the right purpose. We will provide you with a simple, step by step questionnaire to use when shopping for plants for your garden. Taught by Debbie Kadlec, Covington Creek Nursery Staff Garden Consultant, Fee $10.00
  • Sedum Wreath- Saturday, July 23rd at 1:00PM. Create a sedum wreath which will become more gorgeous over time and low maintenance too. We will supply all materials for this fun class. Taught by Debbie Kadlec and Cindy Thirkield. Fee $30.00.
  • Ornamental Grasses- Saturday, August 6th at 1:00PM. Use ornamental grasses for such purposes of low-maintenance, drought tolerance, for form and texture and witner interest. What a versatile plant! Taught by Debbie Kadlec, Covington Creek Nursery Staff Garden Consultant, Fee $10.00
  • Create a Fall/Winter Container- Saturday, September 10th at 1:00PM. Plan an all-season container. Using conifers, evergreens and perennials to create beauty you'll enjoy all winter long. Taught by Debbie Kadlec, Covington Creek Nursery Staff Garden Consultant, Fee $10.00
  • Fall Planting for Winter Interest- Saturday, September 17th at 1:00PM. Benefits of fall planting, what to plant (and what not to plant) to create winter interest in the garden. Taught by Debbie Kadlec, Covington Creek Nursery Staff Garden Consultant, Fee $10.00
  • ***Leaf Prints- Saturday, September 24th at 1:00PM. Kids will create leaf prints for framing and learn about all the different shapes and sizes of leaves in nature. Taught by Debbie Kadlec, Covington Creek Nursery Staff Garden Consultant. FREE
  • ***Harvest Festival- Saturday, October 1st from 10:00AM to 4:00PM. Scarecrow making, Hypertufa making class, terrariums for kids and adults, Pumpkin Patch, Pumpkin Painting, music food and fun! More Information to Follow!
